What is intelligent document processing?
Intelligent document processing (IDP) uses AI to read documents the way a person would: it classifies each one, finds the fields that matter, such as supplier, amounts, dates, line items or policy numbers, and checks them before passing them on. Unlike older OCR templates, it copes with layouts it has not seen before and with scans, photos and emails as well as clean PDFs.
Every extracted value comes with a confidence score. High-confidence documents flow straight through; anything uncertain goes to a person to check in a simple validation screen, and their corrections improve the model. Combined with RPA or intelligent process automation, the data then goes into your finance, ERP or case management system without re-keying.

What is intelligent document processing?

How is IDP different from OCR?
OCR turns an image into text. IDP goes further: it understands what kind of document it is, finds specific fields regardless of layout, checks them against rules and systems, and learns from corrections.
